Pilates Practice for Body Knowledge

Pilates consists of an extensive range of exercises done both with and without equipment.

As Pilates gains popularity the exercises have become generalized for teaching large fitness classes while, at the same time, the most advanced exercises are shown on social media --- but not the methodology that teaches your body how to achieve such exquisite results.

Pilates is a practice

The Pilates method is meant to teach you about yourself and give you tools to create balanced strength and mobility.

There are around 500 exercises between the Mat, Reformer and other apparatus. Each requires precise body-mechanics, breath control, mental concentration, dynamic energy and knowledge of the transitions so you can flow through them without pausing. Since every body is different and we are always changing, there is a large scope of work that can be modified or amplified to individual needs and goals.

The basic Pilates exercises that contain all the essential skills needed for more advanced exercises. The intermediate level exercises take time to process and it is through regular practice that you will gain the skills to change your body and stay in good shape. The advanced levels are highly athletic and come out of the foundation you have laid.

It takes repeated practice done with love to create Pilates mastery.

Learning a skill takes time, dedication, and persistence. Pilates is mind/body skill building through movement-based exercises. Learning Pilates teaches you about yourself.

It is recommended to practice at least 4x weekly but that doesn’t have to always be in the studio. The Pilates mat was designed for home practice and it’s a great addition to any other fitness or athletic activity that you enjoy.

A regular mindful movement practice is for your head as well as your body.

Working out alone or with a video can get old after a while. While we are social distancing, it is important to find ways to feed your spirit with fun social experiences.

If you are feeling unbalanced and anxious, consider establishing a regular practice with one of our skilled, compassionate teachers.

Working privately with a teacher gives you specific feedback and guidance. In small group classes, you also get to see and communicate with your Pilates friends.

Virtual Pilates practice at home

At Kinesia Pilates, classes are opened 5 minutes before the hour for anyone who wants to join early and say “hi”. We mute sound during class, but before and after you have a chance to say “hi” to each other and catch up.

Our teachers offer you the same attentive instruction that you would receive in the studio but from anywhere. Our class sizes are limited to small groups so that we can see you and provide specific cues.

You can schedule online for:
